Sussex Pathways: Lewes Prison

Sussex Pathways is a social mentoring scheme training and supporting volunteers to empower offenders to make positive life choices, by supporting their resettlement back into the community. We help ease the transition from custody to the community and give offenders a reason to live rather than exist.

We are a multi-faith organisation working and developing in partnership with Sussex Probation, Sussex Police and HMP Lewes. We offer a range of voluntary positions to suit different interests, all in relation to the transition prisoners face from custody to the community.

What We Do

Sussex Pathways operates a mentoring support service to offenders being released back into the community, primarily from HMP Lewes & HMP Ford Open but also extending to HMP Bronzefield & HMP Highdown.

Our primary aim is to reduce the risk of re-offending by facilitating, encouraging and supporting the engagement of offenders with specialist agencies in the community to overcome underlying problems, and work towards rehabilitation.

Our mentoring programme promotes progress towards education, training and employment, and supports mentees in the development of life skills such as improving personal relationships, interpersonal and communication skills and integration into the community.
